Top 5 Ways to Use Apture like the New York Times

Dan

The famous motto of the New York Times is “All the news that’s fit to print.” And now, the bloggers and staff writers at NYTimes.com have a way to get even more information and news into the hands of their readers.

Top 5 ways you can use Apture like the New York Times

We thought that it would be fun to show you how the newspaper is using Apture; here are the top five ways nytimes.com is giving their readers a richer experience:
1) Back up arguments: This is a very clever post where a professor of economics answers a readers question about selling his truck. What is most interesting is the link to a specific page in Google Books; the blogger helped “back up” the economists argument with the link to the specific page he mentioned in his book.

2) Introduce new people: The popular Economix blog at the nytimes.com links to the biographies of incoming editors of a well-known economic journal.

3) Use great slides: Over at the NYT blog Dot EarthAndrew C. Revkin is using SlideShare presentations to add a thought-provoking presentation to enrich readers comprehension of global issues like Nigeria’s oil resources. The Times is taking advantage of our recent partnership with SlideShare to bring their library of rich presentations to Apture users.

4) Link to yourself: Use Apture to reference your own websites’ content. NYT “Dining Out” blogger Nick Fox used Apture to help profile the restaurants nominated for James Beard Awards.
5) Don’t quote it, link it: Instead of quoting, make an Apture link. Take a look at how NYT staff contributor Catherine Rampell’s links to a specific page in a Scribd online document to back up her assertions.

Three great New York Times blogs are using Apture in really creative ways, so we asked Apture CEO (and long-time fan of the nytimes.com site) Tristan Harris to choose a few personal picks for his favorite use of Apture at the New York Times. Take a look at these links for a few more ideas on how to use Apture:

If you have any tips, or feedback for the NYT regarding their use of Apture, please send comments (would be appreciated) to apture@nyt.com.
